This program will discuss four exciting American poets. Muriel Rukeyser documents a mine disaster in a collage of legal, medical, and personal testimonies. Edna St. Vincent Millay radically redefines traditional love poetry. Theodore Roethke makes greenhouses a “symbol for the whole of life.” And Natasha Trethewey gives voice to an African-American soldier who served in the Union army.
